Christmas in Edinburgh 2018

Every year the city centre of Edinburgh is transformed into a magical Winter Wonderland and 2018 is no different. For six weeks, starting the 16th November, Princes Street Gardens will become the home of all things Christmas that even the grinchiest of scrooges will enjoy. Featuring fun theme park rides, delicious German delicacies and unique gift stalls perfect for rounding up the last of your Christmas shopping, Christmas in Edinburgh is not to be missed. The following is just a taste of what the event has to offer so round up your friends, wrap up warm and get into the Christmas spirit today!

Ice Skating

Open from day one, the pop-up ice skating rink is always a must. Suitable for all abilities, there is no better way to soak up the festive atmosphere than by gliding (or stumbling) your way across the ice underneath the wonderful display of lights. Due to its popularity, we recommend booking in advance as time slots fill very quickly and, if you are looking to save a few pennies, it is worth having a quick look through the price list as early slots are often cheaper than those in the evening.

Light Night

On the 18th November at 3pm, George Street will be the place to be as Radio Forth’s Arlene Stuart hosts this free special one-off event featuring choir performances, the lighting of The Christmas Tree on the Mound and a wonderful fireworks display. Fans of The Voice rejoice, as former contestant Saskia Eng will also be appearing as a special guest to take part in the proceedings. While it is free, and no tickets are necessary, it is estimated that around 20,000 people will attend so you may want to get there early to find that perfect spot to enjoy the fireworks.
